Ingredients

Donuts
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • Milk or cream as needed for glaze consistency
Toppings
  • Additional flavorings or toppings as desired (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl and whisk until evenly mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, blend the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and fold together gently just until the batter comes together.
  5. Divide the batter into the prepared donut pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full.
Baking
  1. Bake the donuts for 8-10 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the baked donuts to cool completely before applying the glaze.
Glazing
  1. Stir powdered sugar with milk or cream until the glaze reaches the desired consistency.
  2. Dip or drizzle the glaze over the cooled donuts.
  3. Finish with optional toppings or additional flavorings after glazing if desired.

Notes

Cool the donuts completely before glazing so the topping can set properly.
