Ingredients

Cooked Oats
  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup bran cereal
  • 2 cups water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Toppings
  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
  • 4 tablespoons half and half
  • 1–2 tablespoons honey

Method

Cooking
  1. Add oats, bran cereal, water, and salt to a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  2. Continue boiling for 3–5 minutes, stirring as needed, until the oat mixture has thickened and is no longer watery.
  3. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and egg whites once the oats have thickened.
  4. Whisk continuously right away until the egg whites are completely blended and the oats have thickened slightly more.
Assembly
  1. Spoon the cooked oats into two bowls.
  2. Finish each bowl with fresh blackberries, half and half, and honey before serving.

Notes

Whisk the egg whites quickly after adding them to help prevent cooked egg pieces from forming.
