Ingredients

Apple Fries
  • 2 large apples
Breading
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Cooking
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel the apples if desired, then slice them into fry-shaped sticks and pat the pieces dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Set up three bowls: add flour to the first, whisk together the egg and milk in the second, and mix the panko breadcrumbs with sugar and cinnamon in the third.
  3. Coat each apple stick by covering it with flour, dipping it into the egg mixture, and pressing it into the cinnamon sugar breadcrumb mixture.
Cooking
  1. Lightly coat the prepared apple fries with nonstick cooking spray and place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooking in batches if necessary.
  2. Air fry the apple fries at 380°F / 190°C for 7–9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the coating is crisp and golden.
Serving
  1. Serve the warm apple fries with caramel sauce, yogurt, or whipped cream if desired.
  2. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F / 175°C for 3–4 minutes to help restore crispness.

Notes

Use firm apples and dry them well before coating to help the panko crust stick and become crisp.
