Preparation
- Peel the apples if desired, then slice them into fry-shaped sticks and pat the pieces dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Set up three bowls: add flour to the first, whisk together the egg and milk in the second, and mix the panko breadcrumbs with sugar and cinnamon in the third.
- Coat each apple stick by covering it with flour, dipping it into the egg mixture, and pressing it into the cinnamon sugar breadcrumb mixture.
Cooking
- Lightly coat the prepared apple fries with nonstick cooking spray and place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooking in batches if necessary.
- Air fry the apple fries at 380°F / 190°C for 7–9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the coating is crisp and golden.
Serving
- Serve the warm apple fries with caramel sauce, yogurt, or whipped cream if desired.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F / 175°C for 3–4 minutes to help restore crispness.
Notes
Use firm apples and dry them well before coating to help the panko crust stick and become crisp.
